Marine Container Repair at Facilities in Russia and China: From Restoring Watertightness to PTI Tests
A marine container is an asset constantly exposed to harsh conditions: saltwater, mechanical stress during loading, and temperature fluctuations. Natural wear and tear, dents, or damaged seals can lead to cargo rejection at the port, spoilage of goods ("container rain"), and penalties from shipping lines.
MyContainers provides comprehensive repair and maintenance (M&R — Maintenance & Repair) services for container fleets. We perform these operations at our own and partner container yards in Russia (Moscow, Vladivostok, Novorossiysk, St. Petersburg) and China (Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nansha), ensuring equipment compliance with IICL and CW standards.
1. Types of Repair Services We Provide
We specialize in prompt, high-quality minor and medium repairs that restore a container's operational characteristics without the need for decommissioning or major overhaul.
Repair Type | Issue Description | Our Solution | Outcome |
Restoring Watertightness | Worn rubber seals (gaskets), gaps in welds, "container rain" | Replacing door perimeter seals, sealing roof and wall seams with specialized compounds | Complete protection of cargo from moisture and dust |
Patching Holes and Fixing Dents | Through-holes in corrugation, local metal tears | Welding holes, installing repair patches, straightening dents | Restoring structural integrity and protecting against corrosion |
Restoring Geometry | Skewed door openings, bent corner posts or top rails | Straightening posts with hydraulic tools, replacing or adjusting door hinges and keepers | Container passes IICL gauge test, doors close tightly |
Reefer PTI Test | Refrigeration unit malfunctions, sensor errors | Compressor diagnostics, defrost system check, sensor calibration, load test (Pull-down test) | Issuance of Pre-Trip Inspection certificate, clearance for perishable transport |
Comprehensive Maintenance | Dirt, corrosion, floor wear | Washing (interior/exterior), spot painting, replacing damaged floorboards, disinfection | Restoring the container to a presentable condition and sanitary standards |
2. Geography of Repair Facilities
The speed of repair directly depends on the proximity of the service crew to the container's location. We minimize the logistics leg by performing work directly at container yards (depots) in key hubs:
🇷🇺 Russia: Vladivostok, Nakhodka, Novorossiysk, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Yekaterinburg. The facilities are equipped with welding equipment, compressors, and have access to electricity for reefer tests.
🇨🇳 China: Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nansha, Guangzhou, Qingdao, Tianjin. Direct coordination with Chinese repair depots allows us to carry out work quickly and at competitive local rates.
3. Why It Is Profitable to Repair Containers with MyContainers?
Transparency and control: Before starting work, we compile a damage report and agree on an estimate with you. After the repair, we provide a detailed "before and after" photo report.
Compliance with standards: All work is performed in accordance with IICL (International Institute of Container Lessors) requirements. We know which defects are critical for surveyors and which are acceptable for CW (Cargo Worthy) condition.
Time savings: You don't need to search for contractors, sign contracts with them, and control quality. We take on the entire cycle: from receiving the container at the yard to handing over the finished equipment.
Comprehensive approach: We can not only repair the container but also immediately lease it to you, sell it, or organize its delivery to your warehouse.
4. How the Repair Process Works (5 Steps)
Request and damage assessment: You submit a request. Our specialist at the yard conducts an inspection, records defects, and prepares a preliminary estimate.
Approval: We send you the estimate and photos of the defects. Work begins only after your approval.
Execution: Qualified crews carry out the repairs (welding, seal replacement, straightening) in compliance with safety regulations.
Quality control: The site supervisor checks the quality of the welds, door tightness, or conducts a PTI test for reefers.
Reporting and release: You receive the final photo report, a certificate of work performed, and, if necessary, an updated container condition certificate.
